BIOGRAPHY
Costume and apparel designer Charles Neumann has worked with organizations including Boston Lyric Opera, Opera Omaha, Edgewood Studios, Central City Opera, MassOpera, and others. He's designed productions including Capuleti e I Montecchi, Pagliacci, The Threepenny Opera, Trouble in Tahiti, Suor Angelica, and Cendrillon, and has assisted on productions including The Handmaid's Tale, The Rape of Lucretia, and Il Barbiere di Siviglia. He designed for the film Illegal Aliens, featuring the late Anna Nicole Smith and Joanie Laurer, better known as professional wrestler "Chyna." The 2019/20 season includes new productions of Norma, Pagliacci, Giulio Cesare, Rumpelstiltskin, and I Capuleti e i Montecchi with companies including Boston Lyric Opera, Opera Omaha, and Guerilla Opera of Boston.
Charles has been featured in Boston Fashion Week and has shown at charity events including Urban Nights, a fundraiser for homeless and at-risk youth sponsored by Urban Peak, and WE CAN with Mondo Guerra, sponsored by AIDS Connecticut. He's a first place winner in the IIDA Design Competition and a second place winner of the Boston Symphony Orchestra's Project Mozart competition. As an illustrator, Charles was a principal illustrator in Rockport Publishers' book, "Fashion Design Referenced." His work has been featured in the American Textile Museum's Inspired Design Exhibition and at the Natick Collection's Form and Fashion installation.
Charles holds a degree in Fashion Design and Production from Lasell University and completed a costume internship with Central City Opera.
